Tips on how to order a Thyroid test.

A Thyroid test includes T3, T4, and TSH in the body. Circulating in the blood, T4 and T3 are bound and link to protein molecules. The bodys true thyroid levels are defined by the free T4 and free T3. Thyroid levels represent active hormone present to act with receptors of cells in ones body.

In hypothyroidism, blood thyroid levels are low.. Excess TSH is released by the pituitary gland and thyroid levels of TSH rise. A Thyroid test is performed when blood TSH thyroid levels are low, often kept down to levlels below 0.01 mIU per L, hyperthyroidism occurs. Due to a six week blood to test result period, thyroid function or abnormal thyroid hormone levels may appear normal. For this reason, a FT4 and FT3 determination must be ran.

T3 is only produced in small amounts by the thyroid gland. The liver produces the majority of T3 available in the body because of the of T4 to T3 conversion.
